Food: Indulge in our Mi’kmaq culture by enjoying one of our favourite traditional foods - the Four Cent Cake. This cake has been passed down through the generations and is still enjoyed to this day. Cooked over an open fire by one of our Mi’kmaq Heritage Interpreters, relax and enjoy the beautiful view of the Bras d’Or Lake as she explains how this famous bread got its name.
Dance: Join us in one of our original traditional dances - the Kojua. The Koju’a is a unique social dance of the Mi’kmaq that has survived to this day. It was once known as a celebration dance for events such as a birth or wedding. The energetic movements of the Koju’a test the dancer’s strength and endurance. Today, Koju’a competitions are often part of special cultural events or Powwows.
Group Tours: Join us for a hands-on experience of Mi’kmaq culture and heritage. Enjoy our style of dancing, hunting, fishing, outdoor cooking, traditional drumming, and experience a smudging ceremony. Visit our Trading Post and take home a memory of your experience! Group sizes are kept small to offer an immersed cultural experience (larger groups may be divided into two smaller groups). Your group also has the option to enjoy a delicious traditional meal of fish cakes, baked beans and our Mi’kmaq traditional bread favourite, Luskinikn.
Student Tours: We cater to a Student Group Tours of all ages. Students will enjoy walking along the shores of the Bras d’Or lake and learning about the Mi’kmaq way of bread-making, smudging, hunting, fishing and dancing. Students may be divided into smaller groups depending on numbers to ensure an immersive experience for all. Depending on age, students may choose between a basket-making activity (older ages) or a leather bracelet activity (young children). Before departing Goat Island, students may visit our Trading Post to take home a memory of their adventure.
Winter Based Activity: Eskasoni Cultural Journeys provides a unique and fun experience with Traditional Snow Shoeing. Snowshoe along our beautiful groomed trail while enjoying captivating winter views of the Bras D’or Lake. Before departing Goat Island, warm up inside with a hot cup of tea or hot chocolate.
